Getting ready to do alot of work on the bronco, so I need to make sure the fairlane is up to the task of being my DD for a bit.

She has had an issue where she puts out a nice puff of smoke when I start up, ever since the wreck back in 2000.

So, I picked up these heads a while back, '69 351 castings with screw in studs, and guideplates.

Sent them into Don's machine shop here local, and they disassembled them, mag'd them, and surfaced them for a nice flat sealing surface. hope to get them on in the next few days.

Very Happy

hmmmm, my '69 351W-4V heads had C9OE on them. I also had to cut .060 off the deck to restore the original compression of the 289 heads I took off.

More pics

Heads off, the seals were totally gone, I dont think even one is still intact.

Cleaned up the block

Putting the manifolds back on. Notice the Erson 1.6 roller rockers. I didn't get pics, but Mychele Torqued the heads.

Almost back together

All done, new hoses, fired right up.

Wink

No smoke on startup is nice for a change.

Set timing at 12 degrees like it was before and it seemed down on power a bit, I assume it has lower compression now?

I cranked the timing up areound 20 and it runs great now. Not as snappy, but seems to have more on the bottom?

All in all good deal cause I dont smoke out the neighborhood every day.
